About Transonic

Transonic Systems Inc.® was founded in 1983 by R&D scientist/engineer Cornelis (Cor) J. Drost.

As an engineer and scientist at Cornell University in the 1970s, Cornelis (Cor) Drost was tasked to design a better method to measure volume blood flow in physiological models, as the previous methods had limitations. After much study and trial, Cor conceived the design principles for the world’s first transit-time ultrasound flowmeter to measure volume flow in biomedical applications. This was validated by his NIH grant collaborators in Cornell’s Veterinary Physiology Department as accurate and superior to existing methodologies and was soon patented.

Cor wanted to bring this new, more accurate method of measuring volume flow to the world so he founded Transonic in 1983. Transit-time ultrasound technology quickly became recognized as the gold standard for volume flow measurements in research applications, medical devices, and surgical procedures. Our transit-time flow technology has been cited in thousands of studies that include human surgery, research applications, bench validations, life-saving medical devices, and more.

Our measurement tools include intraoperative flowprobes for surgeons, monitors and sensors tailored for hemodialysis and critical care, and specialty sensors customized for original equipment manufacturers.
