HD02 Software Tip

FlowQC

Monitor vs. Software Delivered Flow (Qb)

QbMonitor Qb – The delivered flow value on the monitor is calculated as a running mean average over the previous 10 seconds for the arterial sensor. In other words, the firmware processes Qb using a 10 second moving window when the sensors are attached to the blood lines.

Software Qb - The delivered flow value in the software is a static mean average over an 80-second (60s for the “analyzing” countdown and 20s prior to the countdown) measurement period for the arterial sensor. The software Qb will only be displayed for the recirculation measurement, but is documented for every measurement in the log files.

Thus, the monitor and the software do not calculate Qb the same way or from the same flow signal. However, the numbers should be reasonably close (within 50 ml/min or so; see image at right) of each other.
