Transonic Systems Europe reports that the Belgian government has approved
reimbursement for vascular access flow measurements. In close collaboration with the Belgian Nephrology Society, Transonic Systems submitted documentation to the Belgian
Ministry of Health on the benefits of vascular access flow measurements.
After careful review of the documents and consultation with several opinion leaders in Belgium, the government concluded that vascular access
flow measurements provide additional health benefits for the dialysis patient and can save money on hospitalizations by performing radiological interventions. Therefore,
starting Sept 1, 2004, the Belgian government will furnish a reimbursement code for physicians and hospitals performing vascular access measurements.
By recognizing vascular access surveillance as an essential part of quality care for dialysis patients, Belgium regulates a quality of care
that Transonic has pioneered ever since Dr. Krivitski invented the blood-line reversal method of measuring access flow in 1994! This will serve as a model for other
countries in the world to follow.
