Available in three stainless steel configurations: L, J, U |
The fixed reflector on flowprobes is critical to accurate
measurements because each transducer within the probe body first emits and then receives an ultrasound beam which is reflected from the stationary reflector. The fixed
distance of the reflective pathway is crucial for the measurement of ultrasonic transit time.
L- Reflectors The L-shape reflector has an
adjustable slide cover to fully enclose the vessel. Suture holes are provided to stabilize the probe for prolonged applications.
 L Reflector with slide cover
J- Reflectors The J-shape reflector is available
with and without a slide cover. It is useful for undersized or inaccessible vessels.
 J Reflector
U- Reflectors The U-shaped reflector is equipped
with screw mouns on each side of the probe body. To install around the vessel, the reflector is removed from the probe body, is placed around the vessel and is again
secured with screws to the probe body.

Connectors for T106/T206 Flowmeters |

CH10: 10-pin connector with
embedded ROM Designed for ease of use in acute flowprobe applications, this
snap-in connector houses the complete digital information for the flowprobe. The CH-10 can be plugged directly into the flowmeter or into a
CH10 extension cable.
CS10: 10-pin sealed connector
with embedded ROM Implantable connector with conical threaded protective cap
has suture hole for easy guiding during subcutaneous tunneling. Complete digital probe information is sealed within connector. The CS10 can be
plugged directlu into the flowmeter or into a CH10 extension cable.
CB10: 10-pin Skin Button with
embedded ROM For chronic information, the skin button has a removable anchor
flange and flat protective cap. Shank comes in three heights (10, 15, 005 20 mm); the cable enters the connector at a right angle. Complete
digital probe information is sealed within the connector. The CB10 plugs into a CH10 extension cable. (Typically used in pigs and larger animal
models.)
CM4: mini 4-pin sealed
connector with separate ROM key Implantable 4-pin mini-connector has
two-threaded protective caps and a digital coded key specific to each probe. Conical cap with suture hole is used for subcutaneous tunneling; a
flat cap is provided for pin protection between measurements. Each probe must be used with its serial numbered key and a CM4 extension cable
and a flowmeter; CM4S oe CM4B (side or back exit). We recommend our saddleback cuffs as shown in the picture to the right, to stabilize the
position for external use.

CA4: micro 4-pin sealed
connector with separate ROM key Designed for minimal impact, the 4-pins
terminate the cable end with a bare minimum of housing. A cap is provided for limited pin protection. These connectors can be used where
delivcate chronic implantation requires the least impact from externalizing the connector end. Each probe must be used with its serial numbered
key and a CM4 extension cable to the flowmeter. Only available for 1R, 1.5R, 2S, 2R, 2.5S, 3R, 3S and 4S probes. These connectors are warranted
for one implant only.

CTSB4: 4-pin skin button with separate ROM key
In this configuration, the implantable 4-pin mini-connector is embedded in a
Delrin skin button for chronic implantation. Each probe must be used with its serial numbered key and a CM4 extension cable to the flowmeter.
The skin button has a 17 mm diameter long shank, a 19 mm anchor.

Accessories - Coupants for Acute Applications |
Surgilube, H-R Jelly, NALCO 1181 Acoutic couplants are used to
supplant the air between the vessel and the probe to complete the acoutic pathway during acute studies. Recommedned couplants have acoutic properties similar to blood at a
variety of temperatures: saline is a poor acoutic match. One tube of Surgilube or H-R Jelly is supplied with each flowmeter order; large quantities can be ordered directly
from local suppliers. NALCO 1181 (suggested only for acute terminal protocols) is a super-absorbent powder which, when mixed with Surgilube, forms a viscous gel which can
be an effective couplant at sites where regular couplants melt or are vibrated away.

Accessories - Coupants for Chronic Applications |
Ultracell Sponge
A soft pliable sponge used to cushion highly pulsatile vessels during chronic studies.
Mersilene Mesh A polyester fiber mesh which can be cemented to
or wrapped around the probe and sutured to adjacent tissue to assist in stabilizing the probe at an implant site.
Silicone Coronary Flange A mesh-reinforced silicone flange cemented around the probe
body. Used in chronic LAD coronary artery application to suture probe to myocardium, and in umbilical artery fetal sheep application.
Saddleback Cuffs for CM4 & CA4 Mini Connectors |
Flange style silicone cuffs with suture holes slip over CM4 and CA4
connectors and are sutured to the skin to stabilize the connector in a position where it cannot be reached by the subject. For long-term
implnants, rigid flange style cuffs are more durable and longer lasting. Dual cuffs for two probes are available in silicone. Not suitable for subdermal use.
Silicone Wrapping Strip
Reinforced mesh envelops the probe and is used to retard fat ingress and stabilize the probe at the implant site.
Silicone Shields U reflectors may be ordered encapsulated in
silicone to maintain probe orientation, cushion pulsatile vessels (ascending aorta application) and retard fat ingress (chronic applications). Narrow and wide silicone
shileds are available.

A Word about Calibration Transonic flowprobes are
precalibrated at the factory using a gravity-fed constant flow bench setup with water at room temperature (TN#5) . This compensates for different acoustic conditions with the use of an acoustic gel for acute
applications and fibrous tissue ingrowth in chronic implants.
Transonic Systems calibrates flowprobes differently depending on their
intended use. Probes for acute application are calibrated to read 10% higher than probes for chronic implant. Sub-acute applications of only 1-2 days more closely mimic an
acute preparation and should be calibrated as such. For probe that are used for both acute and chronic applications, we recommended acute calibration since acute
measurements are more often interpreted in absolute terms. In contrast, chronic protocols are generally evaluated in relative terms as changes in flow over time.
Acute versus Chronic
Acute applications defined as terminal experiments under anesthesia, 1 - 8 hours
Chronic experiments mean the probe is implanted; the connector may be externalized and the animal recovers so measurements may be taken on a conscious animal
