The congress will be held in Maastricht, a city of culture, learning and business. Beside that is Maastricht one of the three leading conference cities in the Netherlands. Maastricht is the oldest, most Southern city in the Netherlands and has a population of 125,000. With a history stretching back some 2,000 years ago, the Romans, Spaniards, French and Germans have all left their mark in Maastricht. Maastricht has been the crossroads of cultures and trade for thousands of years.
This meeting will be an important platform for learning and networking opportunities for intensivists, neonatologists, cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, paediatric surgeons, general surgeons, perfusionists, thoracic surgeons, respiratory therapists, intensive care nurses, emergency medicine doctors and nurses, and all other professionals interested in the care of patients with both cardiac and respiratory failure.
We will build on the excellent learning opportunities already shared at the previous four meetings and aim to deliver a comprehensive programme on all aspects of ECMO and ECLS but particularly focusing on the positive impact of team cohesion, quality training, safe ECMO/ECLS transfer and state of the art technology can make to our patients. The draft programme for the 6th Euro-ELSO congress is already looking very exciting, and I hope to welcome you all in Maastricht in 2017 for some days of intense intellectual engagement, meeting old and friends and making new ones, and perhaps a glass or two of one of the Netherlands national drinks.
