Ensuring Optimal Perfusion in Cardiopulmonary Bypass Circuits
Correct for Arterial ShuntsThe use of arterial filters, ultrafiltration units and in-line blood gas monitors can shunt a large volume of flow away from the patient. By placing a Transonic flowsensor distal to the shunts in the circuit, the perfusionist can verify actual flow delivery to the patient and proactively adjust the pump to achieve the targeted perfusion level.
Correct for Under OcclusionAn under occlusive pump head can also result in reduced flow to the patient . The Transonic flowsensor will confirm actual flow delivery in situations where the pump RPM is an unreliable indicator of delivered flow.
Monitor Adequacy of Venous DrainageVariation in cannula size, the presence of cardiac anomalies and cardiac manipulation can affect flow in the venous cannula. The Transonic flowsensor provides immediate feedback on the adequacy of venous drainage and helps the perfusionist anticipate venous drainage problems.
