Validated Ultrasound Dilution Technology

COstatus®  measures cardiac output, blood volumes, and other hemodynamic parameters by proven ultrasonic indicator dilution technology.

  • An extracorporeal AV loop (priming volume ~ 5 ml) is connected to patient's pre-existing arterial and central venous catheters*.
  • Flow dilution sensors are placed on the arterial and venous ends of the AV loop set.
  • A small roller pump is used to circulate blood from the arterial line to the venous line at a rate of 8-12 ml / min for the duration of measurements (5-8 minutes).
  • For COstatus® measurements, body temperature isotonic saline (0.5-1 ml / kg up to a maximum of 30 ml) is injected in the venous end of the AV loop.

*Arterial catheter locations include radial, femoral, brachial, ulnar, and pedal. Central venous catheter locations including femoral vein.
